Claire, our tester, was impressed by the packaging. It was simple to open and clean. She found it to be among the easiest and fastest pieces of baby equipment to put together. She took it for a spin around some rough terrain and was extremely pleased with its performance.
Seats
The majority of 3 wheel double buggies begin life as single pushchairs, but some can convert to take a second seat or carrycot using adapters (these are more commonly found in tandem buggies). Some models allow you to add an additional board for older children who are able to walk, but still require a little help.
Check out the Joie Evalite Duo for a lightweight option perfect for urban streets. It's a breeze to move and comes with a large basket with plenty of storage space. It can be used to accommodate twins as young as birth and accept two car seats or a carrycot and seat. However, the seats need to face forwards and there's no space for a shopping bag under, so you'll need a sidepack for that.
Mountain Buggy Duet will be the best choice if you enjoy off-road driving. It's a side-byside model with the smallest footprint of any double buggy available on the market. It's easier to maneuver through narrow doors, on public transport and to climb over and up kerbs. The adjustable handlebar features an additional handbrake for safety and security.
Another lightweight choice is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double that can be used for twins or a toddler and a baby. The seats can be reclining in multiple positions with UPF 50+ sunshades. The canopy can be adjusted so that the sun doesn't reach your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can be converted into triple by adding UPPAbaby's 'PiggyBack’ board for older children.
The iCandy Orange is one of the most sought-after double buggies that are available, thanks to its superb comfort. It's a true all-terrain pushchair with soft suspension that can easily handle bumpy surfaces. It has 30 different seating configurations and a built-in board for older children who like to walk and a 'cinema' mode which raises the back seats to provide better visibility.
The phil&teds dots are brilliant single buggys that are easily modified to accommodate two (or three!) Different configurations are possible. This is particularly useful if you have a baby in your car. The frame can be adapted to a wedgie that allows for optimal lie-flat positioning. Also, car seat adapters that fit many brands.
Suspension
The suspension of a double 3-wheel buggy will determine the ease with which your child/children and you can push it. It is essential to enjoy a smooth ride as babies can feel every bump that comes along the road. This is particularly true if you are driving on rough terrain, such as grass or roads that are not paved. Certain models also have front wheels that lock to assist with maneuvering and getting over obstacles such as curbs.
Certain models come with air-filled tyres which are ideal for all-terrain riding, however they can be prone punctures. Make sure you have an extra set of tyres in the trunk. Other models use gel or foam tyres, which are designed to withstand bumps and are less susceptible to punctures, however, you might find them to be a bit stiff and uncomfortable for your child's back if you decide to jog.

MFM reviewer Kath tested the Urban Glide 2 through its tests with her infant and three years old children, and discovered that it coped really well on difficult terrains: "it navigated effortlessly over grass and bumpy pavements cobbles, dirt tracks and cobbles with ease and was easy to maneuver around corners and go up and down kerbs. Folding
A three-wheel double buggy could be folded in a neat manner to be stored. There are models that fold flat or stand up (as though they were in the shape of a pushchair) and those that pop out to reveal a more umbrella-style folding, with the option of a hand-operated break. In general, the more wheels a buggy has, the easier it will be to navigate over rough terrain. This is especially applicable when the wheels are larger than average - this will provide you with more stability and decrease the likelihood that your child will tip or flip over.

The clever frame can be expanded to accommodate the additional seat but it still only weighs in at around 11kg, making it easy to lift and maneuver. It can be used with the car seat, a carrycot or both. This allows you to have the best of both worlds.
